Recent investigations into the Arden Estates show that PEAR TREE COTTAGE once belonged to William Shakespeare's parents, Mary (nee Arden) and John Shakespeare, who inherited it from Robert Arden - Mary's father. They mortgaged the property in 1578 and forfeited it, by order of the Chancery Court in 1597 for failure to repay the loan.
Visits to Stratford can be made by tour bus from Mary Arden's House, by train from the village Railway Station, or by your own Car in 10 mins.
We can advise on the best places to park there, for daytime sight-seeing or evening THEATRE performances. Parking at Pear Tree Cottage is simple with lots of space, off road, for all our guests. For the more energetic, it is possible to walk from Wilmcote, along the Canal towpath, into the very centre of the town in a little over an hour. This can be of special interest, as Narrow Boats can usually be seen working their way up and down the series of locks leading down to the River Avon; if you don't want to walk back to the village - take the train (a 5 minute journey).
